Should Children Be Vaccinated? Social media is polarizing mistaken childhood illnesses believed to be caused by vaccinating children. This is causing parents not to vaccinate their healthy children for fear that they will become infected with some unknown disease. Because of this, vaccine-preventable illnesses are beginning to make a resurgence in the U.S. This was seen in the outbreak of measles originating at Disneyland in California. With parents taking advice from social media and celebrities about protecting their children from deadly diseases that were once thought to be eliminated in the U.S. is now reemerging. However, parents should be required by law to vaccinate their children. A widely accepted theory or belief among medical society is that vaccinating school age children is something that should be mandatory. Small pox vaccinations have been around since the 1100ââ¬â¢s. Starting with the state of Massachusetts in 1809 schools started requiring school age students to get vaccinated. It was not until 1981 that all 50 states required measles vaccines for school age students. (Timeline). Why was it created? To reduce and eliminate deadly diseases. Some conspiracy theorists reject this explanation. They are mistrusting of the government and even believe that certain group are plotting against society.
